Goodbye

Rob

By Rob Morrison

I am proud of my recent New Kids On The Block admission, but I couldn’t let it be my last post on the TINY Blog. It seems like the right time and place to say goodbye. This space has been a passion of mine since I started it three years ago. I’ve recently reread all my posts…I’m proud of some and embarrassed by others. Such is life. Many of my talented colleagues have contributed and I thank them. They did so, usually on their own time, because they had stories to tell. At a reporter’s core, that’s all he or she is – someone who enjoys storytelling.

For the last decade, WNBC has given me the unique opportunity to follow news around the world. I watched the Olympic torch lighting in Sydney, Australia. I’ve shopped at a bazaar in Istanbul, took cover from mortar fire in Kandahar and stood inside one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces in Baghdad, just to name a few. I’ve crisscrossed the country as well. I remember driving through a hurricane from Houston to New Orleans.

Of course the biggest story happened in our own backyard. I stood at the base of the burning towers on 9/11 and watched them fall. Then I marveled at how this metropolis responded to that tragedy with a sense of community that made me proud to be a New Yorker. From the big stories to the fluffiest features, I’ve met and learned from many talented people along the way.

The news profession will always be important, but the news “business” is changing rapidly. I’m fortunate to be in a place now to reposition myself for the future. I’ll miss my friends on Today In New York. I believe the folks I respect at WNBC will always represent this storied institution with dignity and I wish them well.

Most of all, I’m humbled by the viewers and readers who’ve allowed me into their homes day after day. Thanks. Change can be both exciting and daunting, but as Jerry Garcia reminds me…”All good things in all good time.”

  1. Where are you going? Judy

  2. Rob,
I wondered where you have been. I’m sad not to be able to listen to you and Darlene banter back and forth as I get ready in the morning. You are very honest and also add a bit of humor to your comments and I will greatly miss it.
Where are you going? Cause I will tune it to watch.
    Best Wishes,
    Sincerely,
    Theresa Annesi

  3. Rob,

I am sad to learn you are leaving Today in New York, and WNBC. I am a fan of the show for a couple of reasons, but the on air talent is the number one reason without question. You, Darlene, Chris, and Otis are the reason my wife and I watch every morning. The best compliment I suppose I can give you is that we will follow you when you land in your new anchor seat, hopefully in the New York market.

Like a steam locomotive, rollin’ down the track
He’s gone, gone, nothin’s gonna bring him back…He’s gone.

    Best of Luck!

  4. I watch from NC on Direct TV because I grew up in NY and it gives me a piece of home. I kept thinking you were on vacation for Memorial Day and then it was all week and now two and finally realized something was wrong. What happened! I would have thought that something would have been said about you leaving. You did a great job, loved hearing about your little boy and thought you and Darlene are a great combination. Best wishes in whatever path you take. I enjoyed starting my day with you!

  5. Rob, It’s not the same without you! I hope you are going somewhere in NY. I, too, enjoyed the relationship you shared with your co-workers. Best of luck!

  6. I agree with Sabrina!
My wife and i totally enjoyed you
We loved the way you handled yourself…………a class guy!
……….”just strum those rusty strings just one more time”

  7. Rob, this is your inauspicious farewell? I, like Sabrina above, have been awaiting your return. The connection between you and Darlene was magic. Together, you were amusing and articulate – a perfect way to start my day. I loved hearing about your family and your eclectic taste in music. I am saddened to think that NBC thinks this is the appropriate way to say goodbye to a beloved, respected member of the morning team.

I have truly enjoyed all your efforts to make the morning news enjoyable and informative. I wish you and your family every success and happiness -

Best wishes – Sue from JC, NJ

  8. Rob – you will be missed! I loved you and Darlene together – it’s going to be hard to start the day of without you. Best wishes!!

  9. Dear Rob, My other half and I will miss you. We enjoyed you and Darlene in the morning, It was also evident how you cared for your coworker when she was in trouble(Darlene), Please, please let us know where you go so we can watch you, my best wishes in your new endeavors.

  10. Rob, your blog was too evasive, you just left us cold turkey after being a part of mine and my family’s morning for so many years. You and Darlene had great chemistry and you’ll be so missed!

  11. ROB
Where did you go!?!? I watch you in the morning before I go to school sometimes…and you’re the only local news cast I enjoy watching. You and Darlene have great chemistry and you make the show awesome to watch.

  12. Seriously?? I am so upset!! You were sooo good! What the HELL!! I have been checking this web site for just this reason!! I have missed you! Where are you going? and when? What happened? Although I am sure that you will not/cannot answer that question, I know I am speaking for a large number of your viewers who want to know!! How do you take a guy who is clearly at the top of the game and replace him?! and with who? This is a bad decision, as far as I am concerned! I am done with this station! Rob, I wish you the best. You and your family. I will miss hearing about Jack! I am so sorry to see you go. I hope to see you again…..here in New York!!

  13. The chemisty between you and Darlene was excellent (along with Chris and Otis). You will be missed. If decision to leave was not yours it was a BIG mistake by NBC. Lot’s of luck on your next endeavor.

  14. Rob,
It’s just not the same without you. For the viewers the relationship must be felt and the team the four of you was certainly in our homes. Needless to say its just not good now. And as others I too shall be looking for a new morning show. NBC needs to learn people do not like change………………………..
To you we all wish you the best and God Bless
Let us know where you go

  15. Rob, our mornings will never be the same.

As a lifelong baseball fan, and Yankees addict, I really enjoyed the banter among you, Darlene, Otis, and Chris (not to mention Trish Yodice) all year long … never thought I would welcome someone into my home five mornings a week who is so clearly a citizen of Red Sox Nation :-)

Seriously, our loss will be some other market’s gain. You deserve – and will reap – nothing but the best.

    jo

  16. I thought you are on a new assignment. I haven’t seen you for the last few weeks.
This morning I said to myself why not search the Today in New York site.
I am sad to find out you are leaving Today show.
I like watching you every morning before I go to work. I like your smile and your comments and even some of the jokes.
    Goodbye and Good Luck Bob!

  17. Rob,
I am so sad about your departure from the morning show. I am also very disappointed that your departure wasn’t even acknowledged by NBC.
You, Darlene, Otis and Chris had such a wonderful chemistry, and you happened to be my favorite anchor on this show.
I hope your next career move will be in NY, because I will follow you wherever you go. There are many people I know who are planning on doing the same.
NBC lost a great person on their morning team. I’m sure in time the ratings will show they made a mistake in letting you go.
Best of luck to you and your family, with whatever path you choose to take in life.
    I miss you,
    Tammy Sloane

  18. I will miss your smart and funny reporting. TINY is less of a show because of your departure. Good luck in your future ventures and I hope to again see you on the air in NYC.

  19. Rob, I’ve been waiting and waiting for your return. One thing I noticed, when a “fill-in”, i.e., Gargiulo [sp?] fills in and doesn’t say “In for ____ today” – I know there’s something wrong. It really breaks my heart that you are off and running but makes me happy for you. I wish you and your family a life of happiness and hope to see you somewhere soon!
I really, really miss you, you are one funny man! And I hope Darlene can survive without you because you two are a pair.
    Thanks for the good times!

  20. Rob,
    SEMPER FI

  21. Rob,
I was just saying to my husband that something is wrong…where is he?? You and Darlene have been part of our morning routine for so long, we are going to miss you! But what happened? Can you tell us? I hope all is well and that you and your family are happy in whatever road life takes you. I am going to miss your Boston take on baseball, and all the ribbing you get from Otis!! I hope you had a great Father’s Day and I know you will do well where ever you go! We will miss you!

  22. Hi Rob,
The mornings won’t be the same without you. We enjoyed watching you very much. You, Darlene, Otis and Chris were like family every morning. We will miss you. Best of Luck to you and your family.

  23. Rob,

Where are you? I just came back from vacation and found that you were not on 5a-7a any more. I loved the chemistry between Darlene, Chris, O-man and yourself. My mornings will not be the same without you.

    Good luck to you

  24. Dear Rob-

I too am saddened that you did not get the opportunity to be feted by your crew, Darlene, Chris and Otis and feel the show this last few days is just lackluster. Your enthusiasm for life was so evident each day and your love of music and you co-workers was just abundant. Your service to your country and patriotism is to be commended. You will be greatly missed. I remember Trish Yodice’s last day and it was wonderful, you deserved the very same kind of departure day. You and your daily viewers have been cheated. All the best to you and your family. Hope your future is as bright as you made our early mornings. most enjoyable and informative. Loved the sports banter too. God Bless You!

  25. Hi Rob,

After watching you and Darlene every morning in the wee hours for years, I was surprised to see you missing for the past few weeks. What happened? Are you leaving to go to another station?

I think you, Darlene, Chris & Otis made a great team and I’m sorry to see that you are leaving

  26. Thank you for being such a wonderful emcee at our recent event. We are sending you a photo, and we hope we can count on you again next year. Visit us any time!

Good luck and best to Ashley and Jack,
    Sari

  27. Rob,

I feel like I’m saying good-bye to a long time friend. We first met (figuratively) 9/11/01. I have always been an NBC news watcher and I witnessed the fall of the towers during your live broadcast. You were remarkable during that shocking and horrible time – even while you were engulfed in the debris. It was such a defining moment in all of our lives and you are attached to my memory of that day, in a positive way. I have great respect for you as a news reporter, journalist and NYer.

TINY will not be the same without you but I wish you well.

    Thank you!

  28. Rob – My husband and I were wondering where you (and now Darlene) have been…..

All I can say is that the TINY team had TERRIFIC chemistry and was a joy to watch on weekday mornings.

I might add that with the exception of Chris and Otis (I hope that the “suits” will at least have the good sense to keep those guys in place) is basically impossible to watch. Michael, while he seems to be a nice enough fellow, just appears amateurish and the blonde (whose name I do not know as I can’t stomach watching her for more than 2 minutes) is just plain irritating.

I guess I’ll just have to watch channel 2 or 7 in the mornings now….

  29. I can’t believe WNBC let you go and NOT Darlene!! I watched you every morning while getting ready for work. I will have to watch a different station now. WNBC has just lost another viewer. I like your Boston roots and what you stood for. That is why it is a shock to me that after all Darlene’s bad press, they let a stand up guy like you go. I wish you the best.

  30. Rob!
I am very upset. Not even a COMMENT on TINY about your leaving?? I’ve been following TINY with you and Darlene for 5 years now! Where/How/why have you left???

  31. Good luck Rob, I will miss you. TINY will not be the same without you in the mix. I always enjoyed your charm and very real and human touch.

  32. Rob,
I can honestly say that I am heartbroken. I woke up every morning to you and Darlene. I recently lost my job and you guys made my mornings (which were the hardest) more bearable. I hope that one way or another we will be able to tune into wherever you are! Best of luck in your next adventure!!!

  33. I’ve been watching and waiting for your return. BIG mistake for Today in NY. You were smart, personable and offered something to that morning show. It’s boring now. What’s the deal?

  34. You will be missed!!! The new people just don’t cut it, yuck!!! Best of luck!!!

  35. Well add me to the list of people who is going to miss you in the morning. I agree with everyone else. You, Darlene, Chris and Otis made mornings enjoyable. The rapport among all of you was tremendous. I kept hoping that you would be returning. What a big mistake WNBC has made! When Trish left the program there was a big farewell for her. Why not the same for you? You deserved it. Good luck to you and your family in all your endeavors.

  36. Dear Rob – Good luck and best wishes to you. I have watched you since you first came to work with Darlene, Chris and Otis (and of course Trish) in the wee hours of the morning. I have been wondering what happened the last few days and finally found out today on your blog that you are no longer with NBC!!!! What a terrible loss. I know I will truly miss you. Yes change is good and as they say God opens a window and let the fresh air in. Take care of yourself and your family. I feel like I have lost a friend. Be good and be well to a true Boston Irish Fan!!! From a true New York Irish Fan!! :-)

  37. You were the talk at my dinner table last night. Since I hadn’t seen your blog, I went to it first thing this morning. I wish you well but selfishly wish you could have stayed. Your team of Darlene, Otis and Chris made my morning so enjoyable; it felt like having family at the breakast table. You have a very big following in the metro area and will be missed.

Thank you for your early morning “visits”!

  38. Wow Rob I am truly going to miss your presence every morning. Who is going to beat up the Yankees and Cheer on the boy’s of Boston. I only hope you are onto bigger and better things. I would certainly welcome any info you have if you are going to another station.
I will remeber all of the EXPERT reporting you and David Bloom did in Iraq. I often prayed for your safety.
    Good Luck and God Bless
Oh and I wish your wife and Little Jack the best.

  39. I too have been wondering where you have been and am now so sad to learn that you are gone. My mornings will not be the same. There is great group dynamic on TINY that will now be missed. My husband and I both wish you the best and know you will be successful in whatever it is you are going to do.

  40. Rob, You certainly are missed. I enjoyed waking up every morning and watching you, Darlene, Chris & Otis. The four of you made a great team. It was sad enough to see Trish go. Your quick wit and subtle sarcasm at times was priceless. I can only imagine what it was like off camera. Maybe the five of you can get together and start your own news show. Best of luck in future.

  41. Rob,
I was hoping it wasn’t true! I feel so disrespected by NBC
and the producers of your show! This is how they treat their loyal viewers? Did they think we wouldn’t notice that
you were gone? Shame on them! Looks like I’ll be switching to channel 2 or 7 for my morning news. I’ll keep googling your name until I find out where you have landed!
Best of luck to you and your family!
    Ellen

  42. Rob,

I am very sad to see you go. I knew something was wrong when after a couple of days – Michael no longer said “filling in while Rob Morrison who is on vacation”. I thought I missed an announcment because I would not catch TINY until 6am and kept waiting for your return.
WNBC should have said something. The station needs to realize that fans our anchors into our homes like family and become very upset when things happen.
We laugh and cry right along with you because that is what family does.
I wish you all the best and hope to see you.
But for now just enjoy your time with Jack.
    Have a Great Summer!

    PJ

  43. Hi Rob,
Where the hell are you? We will keep looking for you to show up. If you can take Darlene, Chris and Otis with you that would be great.
Best of luck to you, We will miss you.
Thanks for all the morning laughs.
    Judy and Brian

  44. This is very sad…I have watched you and Darlene every morning starting at 4:58 AM weekday mornings. I truly enjoyed your broadcasts…your sense of humor and mischievous laugh were the best.

The chemistry between you, Darlene, Chris and Otis was amazing!

I look forward to seeing you soon. Good luck in your future endeavours…you most definitely will be missed.

    Cathy Coniglio

  45. Wow. I am sad that you are leaving Rob. And I cannot believe how horribly WNBC handled your departure. The morning will simply not be the same. I am sure the people who shared the desk with you will miss you too. The rapport between the 4 of you was morning magic.
    Good luck….

  46. Rob, I have to tell you it took me some time to warm up to you when you came in after Maurice left (going back a while) but boy my husband and I warmed up to you but good. We loved watching and listening to you every day – you were SO honest and spoke your mind it was refreshing.
I will never forget how you feel about Sweet Caroline – every time I hear it I hear you saying this disturbs me on so many levels (LOL).
I also assumed you were on vacation until two weeks passed so I will be waiting to see where you land and I will gladly leave NBC to go watch you.
    Good Luck

  47. i’ve been waiting for you to return from what i assumed was your vacation, and then i noticed today that the new guy did not say that he was in for you…. what?!!! the traffic girl gets this big send-off and they just “disappear” you? what a mistake channel 4 made in letting you go. the new guy is pleasant and harmless, but the chemistry that you, darlene, otis, and chris had made this program different from the others with their smiling generic forgettable “suits” up front. oh well…. i had always liked maurice too, so i guess it’s time to give channel 2 a try. sending my very best wishes out to you in your future endeavors….

  48. i’ve been waiting for you to return from what i assumed was your vacation, and then i noticed today that the new guy did not say that he was in for you…. what?!!! the traffic girl gets this big send-off and they just “disappear” you? what a mistake channel 4 made in letting you go. the new guy is pleasant and harmless, but the chemistry that you, darlene, otis, and chris had made this program different from the others with their smiling generic forgettable “suits” up front. oh well…. i had always liked maurice too, so i guess it’s time to give channel 2 a try. sending my very best wishes out to you in your future endeavors….

  49. Dear Rob,

I’m so sorry to learn you’ve left TINY. It will take a lot of getting used to not having you there to start our mornings. I always looked forward to your humor and wit. I hope you know how many of us out there enjoyed and respected your work. I wish you, your wife and Jack all the best in the future and I hope to see you on TV again soon! We will miss you!!! But I’m sure you will not miss the early mornings! :-)

  50. I’ve been wondering myself for quite some time where Rob Morrison has been and even after reading your blog, I still don’t really know.
I agree that 1) there should have been an announcement; 2) you are sorely missed; 3) you had great chemistry with the TINY crew 4) we’d like to know where you are now and 5) more information :-)
Best of luck to you and best wishes to you and your family!

  51. Rob,
If you are reading this, I am sure you are surprised on how many people will miss you. My husband and I are with them. It definitely will not be the same without you. I will miss chuckling at the banter you, Darlene, Otis and Chris had together along with some of your quick remarks to Matt Lauer on his bit. You will be missed and we hope you and your family the best of luck and health.

Thanks for making me smile so darn early in the morning!!!!

    -Vikki & Troy

  52. Rob,

I don’t usually email news anchors, but you have not been on every morning and I was wondering what happened. I’m sorry that you are not on the air anymore. I have enjoyed watching you since you took Maurice’s spot. You are really missed. Even though you like Boston, I still liked you! You have a very boyish charm that will take you far! Hopefully, not far from the Tristate area, though. How about you and Darlene getting your own show, maybe take over for Regis and Kelly (they need to go!). Just a thought…..

  53. This is horrible. I googled your name and found that you were no longer at NBC. Ever since you left I have stopped watching and now watch CW11 news. Please find some way to publicize where you will be working next so we can all watch.
The WNBC big wigs are a bunch of butt heads.

  54. Rob – you will be missed. Hopefully we’ll be able to see you on air in the NY area in no time. Much luck, happiness and good health to you and your family, especially Jack!

  55. Rob-
I echo the sentiments of the other posters in my sadness at your departure. We knew it would be a good day, if the whole crew was on (you, Darlene, Chris, Otis & Trish Yodice). How sad of WNBC, not mentioning to viewers that you were leaving. Hope you are joining a new group in a nearby city– or in one that I frequent on business trips!

    –Doug & Michele

  56. dear Rob

me like everyone else has been wondering where you were?? I can’t believe NBC let you go. I loved watching you and Darlene in the morning. You got my day going. The team will never be the same. You will certainly be missed. The best of luck and happiness where ever the road may take you. I do hope to see you soon!!!! love & miss you,,, Susan S.

  57. Rob!! I am SO sad that you’re gone, I cannot even put it into words. I, like the other bloggers, have been wondering what the heck happened. My gut says that this was not your choice because if it were, there would have been some mention, some celebration of your time there, some acknowledgment of the amazing job you have done on the show. I remember when they announced Maurice was leaving, and I thought it would be hard to adjust to someone new.. But then it was you, and I instantly loved you. Nothing against Mike G., but it’s just not the same now and it never will be. Your love for music, and your ability to sneak it into as many reports as you could, was so appreciated. Your plain passion for life was unmistakable. And TINY will just not be the same without you. I wish there was some way we could demand that you return!!!
Thanks for the years of enjoyable morning show time. Best of luck! Hope to see you somewhere else soon! Keep on truckin’!!!

  58. I am so upset that you are gone. I usually don’t wakeup till 6:00 but my husband gets up at 5:00 and turns on channel 4. It will not be same without you. I was so impressed how you supported Darlene and told her that you all loved her during her recent tribulations. It was so clear to all that watched that you guys were a true work family that cared about each other. The way NBC didn’t even report that you had moved on, reminded me of a baseball team that would fly its manager across the country and fire him in the middle of the night. To find out any info I had to email the NY Daily News (Huff) and he told me. Good Luck and God Bless you and your family.

  59. Rob…
Best of wishes to your future…
I hope your future brings you back to the NYC news arena as I have surely missed you every morning for the past 3 weeks wondering where you were! You and Darlene had such a chemistry that NO OTHER morning team has yet to have. I felt like I was watching my brother and sister every morning giving me the news. My husband, Mike, is a HUGE Grateful Dead fan and LOVED every time you would throw in a reference to them.
We’re are going to miss you Rob… Good Luck and best wishes to you and your family, especially little Jack, who isn’t so little anymore!!!

I hope one day WNBC changes it’s mind and you come back… my morning news will NEVER be the same!!!

much love and support ~ Stef from LI

  60. Oh no….say it isn’t so!!!!!! Why hasn’t an announcement been made? Loved everyone on the show, since it changed, I changed channels.
    E

  61. you’re really gone?!!! my husband and i noticed that your vacation seemed to be going on for a long time, and then we realized that the new guy was not saying that he was in for you — and then i found this blog. wow, what a miscalculation on the part of channel 4. you, darlene, otis, and chris truly had a fun, unique chemistry together. the new guy is harmless, but now they have another generic smiling team of suits just like most other networks. and no send-off at all like the one they gave the traffic girl — they just “disappeared you! oh well, i always liked maurice so i guess it’s time to give channel 2 a try! we are sending you our sincere best wishes for your future endeavors….

  62. Rob,
I will really miss an important part of my morning family. I turn the TV on at 5:00 while I get ready for work. The chemistry between your team (Darlene, Chris, Otis, Cat) and your guests was great. I can’t help but be really annoyed. You always made me laugh, not quite knowing what you might say!
Best of luck to you and your family.
    Kim

  63. Rob: 100% agree with all above!! And from the ‘you can’t make this stuff up…’ as of this very minute, this web site still has you as a co-anchor of the morning show……hmm…what is that all about? they need to stop misleading everyone, announce it, give you a proper good bye that someone who has contributed what you have, desirves!! Give your viewers the chance to say good bye. They suck. sorry, but they do!!
Best of luck to you and your family, Rob. You are a great guy. Served your country, did a great job, didn’t take yourself seriously, made me look forward to your show. Showed such class when your co-anchor was dealing with a public family crisis….yeah, you are too good for them!
    Go and do great!!

  64. I had read a few weeks ago about the changes on wnbc and then read that Michael Gargulio was replacing you. Then I said “what?”! I loved your chemistry with Darlene, the way you delivered the news and most of all, your quick wit. Nothing against Michael, but I really do miss you in the mornings. I am not fond when they make changes to the news personalities so abrubtly. I wish you all the luck wherever you are going. Your #1 fan … Michelle

  65. Rob – I hope you are reading all of this so that you realize how much we all thought of you all of these years. Did you know that on December 9, 2004, Verne Gay wrote in Newsday:
“WE LIKE HIM. Once again, we crown someone who’s doing The Job. This week’s winner: WNBC/4’s Today in New York anchor Rob Morrison, who replaced Maurice DuBois in September. Early, hour notwithstanding, “Today in New York” is a tough balancing act that requires calm, poise, good humor and interviewing skills. So far, Morrison has shown all four.”
Yes you certainly did and we all liked you immensely too.
(I think you started in July 2004, not September)

  66. Ditto – what Joyce said on 6/19

  67. Rob,
I am so upset to learn you left. I have been wondering like everyone else where you were. I finally had to come to the website to see if I could find out anything. I miss you very much in the morning!!! I have already changed stations to protest the move but morning news will never be the same for me!! Good luck to you and your family.

  68. [...] To give some of his viewers some closure, he wrote one last post for the TINY blog. [...]

  69. I was wondering what was going on, every morning waiting to see you. Then after 2 weeks I kinda knew you weren’t on vacation. I am sad to see you leave, the show is just not the same without you. Best of Luck!

  70. Rob,

Imagine my surprise when I heard that you were leaving TINY. My thoughts when I did not see you for a a few day was that you were on vacation and I would see you upon your return. I will miss seeing your smiling face.

Life is like a journey taken on a train,
With a pair of travelers at each windowpane.
I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere and never get to know you.
But if fate should happen and I am at your side,
Let’s be pleasant travelers-I’s so short a ride!

Thank you for being a pleasant traveler, It’s been a joy.

  71. My husband and I are from New Jersey, we watch you and Darlene every a.m. You will be greatly missed. I don’t like change, but hopefully it is in your best interest and of course your family.

  72. Rob,
Your blog confirmed what I have been suspecting for weeks — and what WNBC didn’t have the decency to properly announce. I am truly heartbroken. Is this how the station thanks the guy who helped propel it to Number One in the timeslot? The sheer stupidity and classlessness of it is astounding! I have already switched to ABC for the evening and nightly news. Now, I will go there in the early morning as well. Please let us know where you land. I miss your ease, intelligence, and gentle wit starting off my day.

My husband and I wish you and your family the good fortune you so rightly deserve. You are a treasure!

    Go Rob! Go Sox!

  73. Rob,

I’d just like to add to all the well wishes here, as well as the disappointment that you’ve left WNBC. The 4 of you (AND Trish, until she left, obviously) was such a fantastic way to start the day. It’s truly not the same without you; I hope that your new beginning will be all you want it to be, and it would be wonderful to see you on the airwaves once again.

o/` Thanks, for the memories o/`

  74. Dear Rob,

Most mornings I’m in a fog, but you, Darlene, Chris and Otis always help to bring me out of the fog while I’m getting ready to begin my commute from NJ to NY. Like the others, at first I thought you were on vacation, assignment, something for a short while. Then I decided to DVR the show as maybe I missed early in the morning when Michael G mentioned he was covering while you were …. But this morning I finally realized he wasn’t saying he was covering for you. A BIG shock. The four of you together were truly amazing. That they didn’t give you any send off it shocking to me–no matter what the reason you have left. I hope it was of your own choice for a happier move, but am starting to doubt that. I used to occasionally watch Channel 2 in the evening, but stopped when they arbitrarily and without warning fired almost all their news people to bring in a “fresh” younger group. I won’t be watching channel 4 anymore, I don’t want to watch a station that can do something like this to someone so well liked and to their viewers, without explanation. I will now switch to Channel 7 and hope they are loyal to their staff and viewers. Otherwise, I may have to give up the mornng shows all together. Best wishes in any future endeavors. Whatever medium you decide to work in or for whomever you decide to work will be gaining a phenomenal catch. If you can get them to bring over Darlene, Chris and Otis we will all be on board. And if it’s just you, let us know where you are and we will be right there. Good luck to you and your family.

  75. Rob,

I just wanted to add on to all the folks who have let you know how much you are missed on TINY. You were an intergral part of the TINY Team, and it’s certainly not going to be the same without you.

I hope this new beginning brings you everything you’ve always wanted for yourself, and I’m also looking forward to seeing you gracing our airwaves sometime soon, if that’s what you’re looking to do.

Best of luck and success to you, Rob. Have I mentioned that you will be missed? :D

  76. Rob,
I feel like I know you. I would wake up each morning to you and Darlene filling me in on the latest news, while at the same time sharing bits and pieces from your own life (ie how you can no longer enjoy the song “sweet caroline”).
I wondered each morning as Michael started the show why he didn’y say “in for Rob Morrison”. It took me almost three weeks to find out that, in fact, you were not returning. I am sad to see you go. You were an integral part of TINY and it will not be the same without you. I am disappointed in how WNBC handled the end of your run on TINY, and how they had no mention of your departure on the website.
I wish you all the luck in the future…and hope that you will continue to work out of NYC in some capacity.
Have a great summer with Jack and your wife in the meantime!
    Stacy

  77. Rob!!!

I can’t believe you left TINY! Funny thing though, I ran into Maurice Dubois, last week, and thought to myself, “Too bad he left”. And now, I’m finding out YOU left too! That’s a sad news for my morning routine. You and Darlene made such a good team.
Hope that wherever you’re going, they will take care of you well.

    Best.

  78. Rob,
The morning news is just not the same without you. Since I moved back to North Jersey and am finally back with WNBC, I have enjoyed watching you in the morning. Michael is alright but he is no you. Take care and I hope to see you again on TV.

    Darlene,
Do you know where Rob went?

    Erica L.
    Woodbridge, NJ

  79. I haven’t checked the blog since i found out you left. So I am the last in a long line of people that will miss you and think you rule. I am not sure what I can say that will be any different so best of luck.

    Keep on truckin’!
    –Richie

  80. Well, I’m a late comer – I just found out today that you are GONE from Today in NY. WHAT A LOSS!!! I thought you were on vacation and finally Googled you and read the news. You were truly a great way to start the day and you can be sure that there are fans out there that will miss your presence in the morning. Sometimes Corporate America can be penny wise and pound foolish – they cut back where the real people watch. There is no doubt that you will find another position for yourself that will be even more rewarding. You would be a true asset to any news organization. All the best to you and your family.

  81. Rob….as a loyal WNBC viewer for years…I say…where you go I follow- TINY is nothing without you. Rock on and Semper Fi….

  82. Dear Rob, I was so sorry to hear that you are no longer on tiny It is amazing how NBC made a bad decision. My best to you and yours. We hope to see you on another show

  83. I have be wondering where you were…I will miss seeing you Darlene,Otis and Chris chat in the AM…I started my day with all of you for years- Hopefully I will see you on CBS or ABC- all of you were great! Enjoy your wife and son….it’s been great …Nan

  84. Rob-

I miss watching you every morning. I will follow you if you switch to a new network. I really miss getting up hearing your voice delivering the news or commenting with Chris. I will watch Maurice in the interim until you find a new location. Management should be ashamed that they let such a talented anchor fall by the wayside. Best of luck in all of your future endeavors.

  85. I echo the many sentiments posted on how much you will be missed. When viewers tune in to a local newscast, its usually because of the anchors and reporters. I have been watching TINY on and off for years, because of Jane Hanson, and I returned to watch when you joined the show. Not too many people in this business can be called class act, but you certainly are one. You are missed on the air and I know you will land another gig. I just hope its soon. Thank you for all the mornings you helped make brighter! All the best to you and the family!
    Moshe

  86. Dear Rob,

After all of these weeks I just knew you were not on vacation. At 4:55 each morning I would eagerly await the TINY music to start and you and Darlene start to fill me in on what happened over night.

Now that it is official, I wish you well, but will miss the style and warmth that you brought to the news desk. Good wishes to you and your family as you embark on your new adventure. TINY will not be the same without you.

  87. So sad that you have left TINY. I’ve been watching on Channel 4 forever; ever since you were paired with Felicia Taylor. I even met you once at a town meeting. You were as pleasant and as funny as you are on television. I can’t imagine how WNBC/4 could let you go. As much as I really love Chris and Otis, it isn’t the same since your departure. I’ve changed morning stations. Hope you show up on tv again soon!

  88. Rob,
you are sorely missed, and watching the AM news is no longer the same.
Best of luck, and hope to see your face on TV again!!

  89. Rob,
Sorry to hear you left TINY. I too thought you were on vacation but was wondering why so long. I started watching WNBC 4 when I got local channels from NYC on my DirecTV and have since enjoyed the banter between you, Darlene, Chris and Otis every weekday morning. I live in the Adirondacks but choose to watch your channel to get a different perspective on the state than what I get from the local papers.
The show isn’t the same without you and you will definitely be missed. Much success to you and your family. Hopefully management of the station will find someone to work with Darlene who can come close to your chemistry with her and make the show enjoyable for me again. Go Sox. Best of luck to you!

  90. Rob,

I agreed with everything…everyone has mentioned in this blog. You are missed and your replacement just doesn’t make it. Perhaps Darlene will move on soon too.

Instead of rehashing all the wonderful things everyone has said about you, I want to rail against NBC for thinking so little of those who watch TINY in the morning and hiding this BIG secret from all of your fans. I have been sending e-mails for the last couple of weeks asking when you were returning, etc…NEVER a response. I’m sorry to say, I’ve moved away from NBC now, because of how your exit was handled by the network. The chemistry between Mike G and the rest, just doesn’t work.

Good luck Rob. You were great to wake up to..so to speak!

    Mike

  91. Rob,
The day my husband told me you were no longer going to be on TINY, I told him he was lying. So every morning I’ve been waiting and every morning he says “See I told you.” Then Darlene wasn’t on for a few days and he said “Now what are we going to do?”

We miss the way you and Darlene interacted. It was a pleasure to watch you together each morning. Good Luck in everything and we hope to see you on air again soon. Its just not the same in the mornings now.

  92. Rob!!!
What a surprise to see one more post in the TINY blog. It’s just not the same w/o you. You’re not there and now the horrible loss of Tim Russert, I just can’t stand to watch NBC. I love the rest of the guys in Today in New York, but it’s just way to boring now. You guys worked wonderful as a group!!! How are we suppose to know about little Jack now?? Michael G, nice guy, but we need spice in the mornings. I’ll keep searching for you…….hopefully NYC.
    Miss you tooo much!!!!!!!

    EDuran

  93. I enjoyed Rob and Darlene every morning. I am sorry he (you?) left and do not like the replacement very much. He’s goofy. There was great chemistry with Darlene. Where did Rob go? I wish him well.

  94. After weeks of waiting for the return of Rob – the blow of finding out he is gone! And only for the ones who search the website and this blog. It’s not easy to find a news cast where the chemistry is great amongst the anchors and the crew, but also for the audience to feel a connection to all of them. I too tuned in every morning, to see what will make them crack up in between the news stories. I am very disappointed in WNBC for not giving us the opportunity to see a proper send off.
Rob thanks for making our day each day and your professionalism in reporting, most of all your great sense of humor. Good Luck in what your future holds.
AND…. Shame on you WNBC for being silent about Rob’s departure. I feel just as sad to lose Rob as I do about losing Tim Russert… but at least I had the opportunity to say goodbye to Tim!

  95. Hey Rob…..I miss you sooooooo much!!!! It’s just not the same w/o you. I truly loved you guys as a team. How are we supposed to be informed of the news with a twist. I feel like the rest of the people who have left comments and now with the passing of Tim Russert, I don’t know what NBC will do. Wish you the best!! Continue being the proud dad you are, I loved hearing you talk about little Jack.

    Esther

  96. Many of us have been in your same shoes with all the corporate changes, downsizing and tough advertising economy. When one door closes…another one opens.

However, selfishly, I really miss the great rapport with you, Darlene, Chris and Otis. Who would have believed that someone from Boston would be SO BELOVED in NY! Getting ready for the day is just NOT the same with you. We hope to see you somewhere else soon…very soon.

  97. Rob, you are truly missed. The chemistry you had with Darlene, Chris and Otis, was more than that of co-workers, you all seemed like family. You had a way of making the news, down to earth, with your personal opinions thrown in from time to time..lol. Thank you for all the wonderful mornings wish you and your family the best!

    Christine

  98. I, like all the others, will miss you very much. TINY was a great show to wake up to and to find out all the news before I had to go to work. I hope you come back to this NYC news at some point in time. Until then, I will go back to channel 2 because before you, Maurice was the best.

Best wishes to you and your family!

    Kate

  99. Rob,
I also thought that you must have been on vacation when I did not see you on TINY. I looked forward to watching you banter with Darlene, Chis and Otis every morning. You all appeared to be enjoying each others company. Rob, you brought honesty and humor to the show every day. It is truly our loss that you are gone. Hope you will be finding an anchor seat in the metroplitan area, I’ll be looking for you.
    Best of luck!

  100. I am surprised as others that you are not there any more. Why you were never mentioned again was not made clear. I would like to know why. This in my opinion not much different than the Met manager firering. Good luck, maybe you will resurface somewhere.

  101. Rob,
As some as your other responders have said, I too went on line to try and figure out where you went. My husband and I have been puzzled as well. We too thought you were on vacation and then when we realized too much time had gone by, we wondered what happened. We have enjoyed you and your relationship with Darlene, Chris and Otis. I remember your reporting from places here and abroad and enjoyed you then too. So I was happy when they chose you to replace Maurice, who I also enjoyed. Nothing, against Mike G., but I may join Maurice now on 2. I do hope we will see you show up somewhere on NY news but whatever you do, I wish you and your family success and happiness. NBC has made a mistake if this in fact was not in your plans.

    Barbara

  102. I don’t know if you will ever see this but I needed to tell you you will be missed!! I am a mom of five in New Jersey, my kids are 8yrs old to 17yrs. old. My day begins at 5:45. I pack up five lunches and two snacks daily. Watching you in the morning made it that much easier to ease into my day. The TINY team would inform me of what had happened while we slept and what we could expect for the coming day, but more importantly you all would at some time during the morning make me laugh. I know change is necessary and but my mornings will not be the same without you and I am NOT happy about that. I do wish you and your family all the best. You deserve that!!!

  103. Rob, Rob, Rob,

I of course wish you the best, but like others have said after so many years on the program, I would loved for you to have been able to say your farewells. I was looking for you, I sent a few emails, and finally I called the station and was advised your contract was up. I will miss you. Much luck and even more happiness.

  104. Rob,

Our breakfast will never be the same. We’ve always enjoyed your rock references, your witt and sense of humor. I’m a New Yorker who is a Met fan/Yankee hater and always loved you being pro Red Sox.

Good luck in your future endeavors. We’ll be waiting to enjoy your next broadcast .

    Regards,
    Mark

  105. Rob,

NBC lost a faithful viewer because of your departure. You brightened my mornings, and I thank you for that. Good luck in whatever your future holds…

    Jennifer

  106. Rob,
Like other bloggers I thought you were on vacation but I knew that something was wrong weeks ago when one of the business reporters, also thinking you were on vacation, said she was disappointed that you weren’t there because she wanted to congratulate you on a big Red Sox win. Darlene’s reply was very telling. As is evident from the 59 other replies, you will certainly be missed. You, Darlene, Otis and Chris were the best morning team ever! My wife and I watched you every morning. I am a school principal who just changed schools so I know what change is all about. I loved the school I left, but felt that the school I went to was an opportunity for me to grow. I only hope that you left TINY for the same reason. We’ll be looking for you. All the best!
    Brian
Sorry it took me so long to write. I was away and did not have access to the Internet.

  107. Wow Rob…I was so sad to just find out you left…I was thinking you were on vacation or something, but then I googled you and came up with this farewell. You made the show in the early morning hours of tv. You made me laugh…your grin alone made me giggle….I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. You will be sorely missed by your viewers. :(

    -Tara

  108. Rob:

Not sure if you are going to be able to see this but I wanted to tell you that my wife and I are very sad that you are no longer part of NBC (TINY) or our mornings. I, like all of the other posters, thoroughtly enjoyed how you and the rest of the crew got along.
You will be dearly missed and I wish you the best of everything in the future.
    Good luck and thanks.

  109. Contract up? Don’t they mean bought out?
Rob, you’re a very good reporter and a good man with a good heart. Appreciate all your community service activity. Saw you at last NYC Buddy Walk.
Hope you’re actually enjoying your break and getting in some quality time with Jack. And I’m sure you’ll land on your feet (trust you got a really good parachute) and will do well.
Any truth to the rumor that you are leading a general exodus of thousands and thousands of stinkin’ Red Sox fans out of the City and back to Bean Town?
Hey, I hear the Mets have an opening. Bit of a career change, but what the heck. Maybe Chris Cimino could put in a good word to get your foot in the door.
Whatever, wish you all the best.

  110. As a fellow RSFIYT (Red Sox Fan In Yankee Territory), I was dismayed to learn Mr. Zucker had shown you the door. Tain’t the same without you, Darlene, Chris, Otis and Trish (woo woo!) together. My mother worked for NBC during the Buffalo Bob/Howdy Doody days, so I’ve been a loyal viewer since my “wee days”, but the bad taste left in my mouth with this lastest shake up, has killed my interest in TINY and NBC. I guess I should be telling the advertisers this, no? May the road rise up to meet you, Rob….Go, Sox!

  111. Even though you are a “Boston Fan” my wife and I invited you and Darlene into our house every weekday morning. Our mornings just aren’t the same without you. I just don’t like the other guy. My wife has mentioned boycotting the show all together. That won’t happen because I like Darlene too much. We wish you the best of luck. We know you will land on your feet. Hopefully in New York. We’ll be looking for ya.

  112. I knew something was wrong!!! I like many others thought you were on vacation or on assignment. My TV went out on what I assume was your last morning on TINY. I have been waiting for your return. I can’t believe you won’t be a part of my morning routine.

  113. We watch you every morning from Greenwood, Mississippi. I had wondered where you were and found this blog. I surely miss you and hope the best for you and your family. The new guy is ok but it seems so different not seeing you sitting next to Darlene and picking on each other and Otis and Chris. May God Bless you in your next big adventure.

  114. Mr. Morrison,
Like all previous bloggers, I kept hoping you were on vacation or shifted around after Tim Russerts untimely death. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. NBC made a huge mistake. You, and the rest of the team, made getting up at five worthwhile. And anyone who could win the heart of Miss Perfection Martha Stewart (I loved how she flirted with you and how visibly uncomfortable you were) has to have a great personality. Wish you the best. You will be missed.
    Erika

  115. I too am extremely sad that you are no longer on NBC. You have a great sense of humor, and such a warm and genuine personality that I truly looked forward to turning on the news every morning to watch you and Darlene. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully you will move on to bigger and better things!

  116. I will miss watching you in the morning. My treadmill will never be the same. Went on line to look for you and my fears came true. Just want to wish you the best of luck and I hope I find you on another channel:)

  117. Rob
I have been writing on all the other sites where people have written about you.
You are so respected as a news reporter-such sincere reporting. We shared the same music as you can tell even from my email address (drowningman)-U2, etc
Lots of people really miss you and lots of people have switched to other local stations and we are all suffering with those reporters. Now we all miss you, Darlene, Otis, Chris together. Shame on NBC.

  118. I echo everyone that said you are sorely missed. I’m an old “Dead Head” myself and loved your references to the band. You and Darlene were magic. What is WNBC thinking? Best of luck to you. I’m sure you’ll land on your feet.

  119. Rob,
I am stunned. The show is not the same without you. I can’t watch it with the new anchor. Very nice guy but no substitute for you. I wish you and your family all the best. God bless you,

    Catherine

  120. Rob, Best of luck in whatever you do. Really enjoyed watching you and Darlene in the morning; it was like my first cup of coffee. You, Darlene, Otis and Chris have a great rapor, you reported the news but took the time out to talk to each other and make us laugh. Again, all the best.

  121. Rob,
I think I have to be the most upset by your departure! I couldn’t write anything until now. I like the rest of your fans believed you were on vacation, must have been a day when I was away. I have literally depended in and have truly enjoyed watching the TINY gang in the mornings! I can’t believe NBC could do something so ass-backwards as the other stations!! I was a huge channel 5 fan in the mornings until they got rid of their morning crew, especially Jim Ryan. There was no chemistry any longer and I was disappointed. My TV landed on channel 4, and there you were. Watching another news show with such great chemistry made gettingbup for work bearable. When Otis came on board one would’ve thought you guys were related or at least best friends.
I can’t effectively express my disappointment at the level of ineptitude of the NBC officials that did this to you!!! Most New Yorkers accepted you even with your strong Beantown ties!! The banter, the chemistry, the playful looks you would give Darlene and the camera will sorely be missed. I still love the rest of the TINY crew but it won’t be the same. Good luck in the future, please come back to NY TV. Your own show maybe?? Be good to your family and take it all in stride. If NBC wants another Jane P/ Deborah N/ Bryant G fiasco then that’s their stupdity, they just don’t know when to leave things alone!! I’ve tried channel 4, channel 5, what’s next? Channel 2, 7? Doesn’t matter, I have satellite TV with over 250 channels. Maybe while I’m surfing I’ll be fortunate to see where you’ve landed!!!
    Goodbye Rob

  122. Hi Rob,

I am the mystery shopper who ran into you twice in the morning at the Shops at Columbus Circle. I was coming from doing a shop and was thrilled to recognize you. You were very kind and spoke with me for a few moments, even asking me if I had children. I remember kidding with you and saying” I really enjoy waking up with you in the morning”. Ironically, I ran into you a second time a few months later in the same place. Again, I had finished a shop somewhere in the area and I am not sure where you were going. I was very disappointed to learn you had left TINY but I am sure it is for something better. You were a bright spot in the morning. You certainly had a better attendance record than Darlene. Best wishes in your future endeavors.
    Regards,
    Sherry

  123. I must say that I was so upset to hear that you left NBC. I don’t even turn on the TV in the morning. I really looked forward to seeing you, Darlene, Chris and Otis together! My news world was really rocked, first you, then sadly Tim Russert (all my favs!) I googled you to find out where you had been and found this site. Best of luck to you! Hopefully you will turn up soon!

  124. I miss you Rob and echo the sentiments of those posted above. Hope I find you somewhere else on TV. Good luck!

  125. I really tried but I find Michael Gargiulo uninspiring in the morning…and the show is not the same without Rob. (I hope Darlene is only on vacation!) I’m listening to the radio in the morning these days!

I hope Rob turns up somewhere local!

  126. Rob,

It was unprofessional of the station to treat the viewers as if they were stupid. The station lost much respect from viewers, who are people, of varying intelligence and wit, but all of whom deserve respect. The arrogance is astounding.

I came to enjoy your anchoring slowly – from “where’s Maurice?” to “hey, this man is smart and very funny and quite down to earth.” And for that I know your next place on the planet will be a better one. You will give back, this we all know. Best to you.

  127. Rob — Best of luck to you in whatever you do! – i have enjoyed watching you with the NBC morning gang – Michael is good, and should be a fine replacement, – but it was quite a shock to turn on the tube and you were gone. – i hope we get to hear news of your little boy somewhere, once in a while too — :)
good luck to you!- joe and dolores, amityville, ny

  128. Rob, you will be greatly missed. I have been searching for weeks to find an answer to why you were no longer on the show. I even called nbc and they said you were on vacation. The show is not the same without you. I think they made a mistake. Hopefully i can google your name soon and find you on a new network, maybe Darlen, Ottis, and chris can join you. What a winning group you guys were. Good Luck.

  129. How sad it is you are gone and that the network didn’t feel we know anything about it. I feel in some ways I have gotten to know you and the rest of the crew each morning and now find it hard to even watch. My guess is that Darlene, Otis and Chris can’t be far behind you. I have emailed WNBC twice and haven’t received a response. They might be trying to save mnoney but they are loosing viewers. Guess I am going over to ABC now.
Best to you and whatever you end up doing. You will be missed and the chemistry between you and Darlene was fabtastic.

  130. I have been watching Channel 4 5-7 since the days of Matt Lauer and I have to tell you Rob and Darlene had great chemistry and I always looked forward to starting my day with them. I never missed any anchor like I miss Rob since Matt left for the Today show.
Rob good luck to you wherever you go, and who knows if you wind up in a NY station I may once and for all leave WNBC to watch you!

  131. Rob,
I just found out that you are truly gone and I am devastated. How could NBC let such a talented man out of their grip? Goes to show you how dumb those big corporate executives can be. I will miss your smile & your honesty. You always said exactly what you thought. Maybe that’s what NBC didn’t like? You, Darlene, Chris & O-Man were such a great team together. You are a class act, and I’m sure that in the long run you will come out on top. All the best to you and your family. I will look for a new morning news program now that you are gone.

  132. Rob,

Having watched NBC for the last 13 years I now will be switching my morning show, I do not connect with the new guy (mike g, sorry) and the show was great before with you, Darlene, Chris & Otis, I used to watch not just for the news but because you guys together as a team made me smile, I think you & Darlene were great together, some mornings I just laughed! Now I am so not liking it, haven’t seen Darlene in awhile, is she coming back? I wish you best of luck and hopefully NBC will get a good morning crew again before they lose more valued viewers.

  133. Hi Rob,
Miss you in the early mornings. Your my first cup of coffee.
My husband and I just hope you will appear on another newschannel soon. We had a TV installed in our bathroom because we enjoyed your spot. Please come back to the AM or let us know where ever you end up? The smiley guy doesn’t work for us. We feel sorry for Darlene, Chris & Otis.
Thanks for the laughs every morning and we look forward to seeing you in the future.
    Good luck!
    Mary

  134. I get up @ 5:00 a.m. daily to go to my job as an infant/toddler caregiver in a YMCA Early Learning Center at 6:30 a.m. At first I assumed Rob was on well deserved vacation. However, after 3 weeks I realized that Michael Gargiulo was not saying he was “in for” Rob Morrison.

I’m not particularly computer savvy, however, eventually found the “Good Bye Blog”. I’m so sorry to loose Rob. I always thought Rob, Darlene, Chris, and Otis seemed genuinely like family. I do wish him well and hope to find him someplace on TV again. Give my best to Jack (:

  135. All the best to you and your family.

  136. Rob,
don’t know if you will actually get this or not, but I along with the other 98 people wondered where you were as well.
I know that these things happen, people in your industry move along all the time, I wanted you to know how much you will be missed. I hope that you end up somewhere in the new York Market, and I will be looking for you.
All the best, to you and yours!
    mary ellen

  137. Sorry you weren’t on the show lately to spar about the Papelbon controversy. Would have made the morning lighter. We miss you and are still trying to get used to Michael Gargiulo. Watching to see where you pop up next.

  138. Rob,

You will be missed and we were very upset that NBC did not say goodbye to you. You deserved better. Best if luck to you and our family.

    Regards,
    Debbie Gurrieri

  139. Rob I am glad I finally found this site-have been wondering what happened to you-we loved being with you everyday and poof you are gone-some announcment something should have been made and now DArlene has disappeared-not the right way to do things!!We will miss you!!

  140. I have been meaning to search to see if I could find out why you haven’t been on the show.I assumed you were on vacation and then took one myself…. kept waiting for you to come back..

The program is not the same — the only reason I am still watching this station is because of Chris and Otis ( Darlene has been missing as well.. if she is gone.. definitly going to switch my morning routine)

I will be on the lookout for you to resurface.. and will tune in if I find you.. . the new team is just like every other station.. which is why I have been watching NBC!!!

  141. Rob, I just found out yesterday that you are gone! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed watching you in the wee hours of the morning while I got ready for work. I wish you and your family all the best. The show won’t be the same. I may have to listen to the radio now! Good luck!

  142. Rob Morrison is a class act and I can no longer watch the Today show from 5-7am without him. Politics is what it is but people do have the right to reject what they do not like.

Please post an update on where he goes and what he will be doing. Rob Morrison is someone to follow. Thanks.

  143. I, too, Rob am so disappointed to hear that you will no longer be “the man I wake up to in the morning” I wish you the very best and know that your talent and professionalism as well as all the genuine traits you embrace will be appreciated in whatever your next endeavor takes you and your family. You will be sorely missed by many, as can be attested to on http://www.observer.com, there are over six hundred comments regarding your departure, and they are still commenting thru today. All the best to a newsman with the integrity to admire and inspire.

  144. Rob,
You, Darlene, Christ and Otis are a great forusome. I meet you all when you came into the NBC store during Habitat for Humanities. You guys were helping out with the building out on the plaza. You all seem as freidnly and caring as you do on the screen. I was very sad to find out that you were leaving. Darlene has lost a great partner on TV and so has the network. It isn’t the same without you in the AM. You guys where my favorite. Good Luck and hope to see you soon, in another network. Hopefully!!
    You will be missed!

  145. I have been out of the country and when I came back both you and Darlene were not there to make my getting ready to work bearable.
I waited for some sign that you were on vacation, none came. I saw Darlene in the evening news and it is only today that I googled you to find out the sad news that you had left.
You, Darlene, Otis and Chris made my day. Guess what, I am going to look for another wake up channel
They made a very big mistake, they can now watch their spot as #1 disappeare with you.
I really do miss you. You were like one of the family.
I wish you all the best and hope to see you soon.
Good luck and say hey to Jack for me.
    Best,

  146. HI Rob, I still miss you. I am not even watching the channel that much. the chemistry just is not there. I do like Chuck and Darlene but you two had real chemistry. Good luck

  147. Rob, getting up every morning and tuning in to you, Darlene, Chris and Otis was the perfect way to start my morning. I looked forward to the interaction among all of you, especially between you are Darlene. You were perfect together as co-anchors. I’m sorry to say that the show, as it is structured now, does not have the same effect or appeal. It took some time for me to realize that you were not returning to the show. Quite frankly, I just could not believe it at first. It took me until today, when I reached your site to accept it. You are a wonderful newscaster. I wish you and your family all the very best, and hope to see you soon again on the air.

  148. I was wondering where you had gone. There was no warning of your departure. I had thought that you’d taken a long needed vacation with the family. But as the weeks went by and still no mention of your return, I finally realized that you’d left NBC.
I had wondered if it was your choice to leave. Now I see that some idiot in the main office let another good one get away. Penny pinching idiots… like all industry all they are interested in is the bottom line. As a result good people are out of work.
Every morning my husband and I would wake up to Darlene and Rob. I’d hear their voices and didn’t need to know that another day had started… “Get out of bed!”
These days listening to the news is anything but pleasant. But Rob and Darlene made it a bit more tolerable.
I used to love the stories about your son Jack. I loved the Boston/New York baseball rivalry both on the field and on the TV.
What a rotten thing to let you leave without having a chance to say goodbye to all your fans.
I hope that you will find a wonderful position in a NY based station so that I can keep on enjoying your wit, your superb gift for telling the news…
GOOD LUCK ROB. NBC GOOFED BIG TIME!

  149. Wow, I bet there wouldn’t be such a fuss if Matt Lauer left. I sure would not care as much.

  150. Wow..all this time and I thought you were either on vacation or switched to another time slot. I finally decided to Yahoo Search..” what happened to Rob Morrison NBC Today News.” I must say I am sad not to see you and Darlene together anymore. You had much better chemistry than she and Michael Garguilo do now. I wish you all the best and hope that a better and more lucrative door opens for you. My philosophy is that there is a reason for every season and i hope yours is a re-birth!

  151. I am very sad to see you go. You and Darlene made a terrific team and NBC will surely feel the loss. I wish you well in your future endeavors and hope to see you on another network soon!

  152. You, Darlene, Chris and Otis were THE team to watch, they are still the best but it’s not the same without you! Wishing you all the best and looking forward to seeing you on TV again soon!

  153. Rob: I am one of your fans. Finally took some time to Google and find out why you are no longer on WNBC. Read the NY Observer story. Sign of the times. No on-air formal good-bye, right? How ill-mannered of WNBC. Hope the NYC market sees you again on-the-air or virtually on the ‘net.
God bless and all best wishes as you start a new chapter in your career.

  154. Rob,
One day you’re there and then you’re gone. May I add my cudos to you. My wife and I miss you in the morning and I just want to add my best wishes to you.
We will be looking for you on TV, hopefully in an even better situation for yourself.
    Good Luck!
Don’t let the Turkeys get to you!!

  155. Rob you sure are missed. Let us know where you are going so we all can follow. TINY is just not the same. NBC will be sorry when you go to one of the other networks. Good luck to you and your family.

  156. Has the whole team been let go? The replacements are truly awful – that amount of bleach and teeth is very irritating to watch early in the morning.

Tsk tsk, GE. Poor decision making. Advertisers won’t be interested in a New York newscast that no New Yorker can stand to watch.

  157. It has been excruciating not knowing … and missing you for this long a time! With Darlene’s return to mornings, I anxiously expected your daily return – to no avail. You are a professional, a human being (not many left) and a class act, so I know this situation will only make you “grow wherever you are planted and blossom once again”.
May Our Lord fill you and yours with blessings!

  158. Rob, Come back to NBC! Miss you! Judy

  159. I was shocked and saddened when I learned you were no longer the anchor on Today in New York. I look forward to seeing you again on tv in the near future.

  160. Rob,

My Mom and I have watched you for years and absolutely miss you!!! All the best and keep us posted on your next assignment.

  161. I’m so sorry to see you leave. Miss you in the morning! NBC should be ashamed — they never let the viewers know what was happening. Good luck in your next venture!

  162. Rob,
I was very saddened by your good-bye post. Like all of your viewers, I enjoyed the banter you shared with your team in the morning. For the early crowd, it’s really important to start the day right, and you and Darlene certainly started many of my days with a smile.

I am very disappointed in NBC and the way they handled your leaving, or should I say “lack of handling.” They should know that you had a huge following, and that thier lack of respect for you and us has lost them a lot of viewers. I, for one, have not tuned into the early show for many weeks. The anchors do not have the same charisma (actually they are quite annoying) that your team had, and I have switched to CBS in the morning.

Good luck wherever you go, I know that wherever you go, the viewers there will be blessed with your wit, charm, and reporting skills. I, like your other viewers, will also keep googling you to see where you are, and will follow you if you are in the area. If you are not local, there is always the online stream for most venues…

Good luck and we miss you!

    Valerie

  163. Rob,
I came back from a winter in Florida only to find you were gone from WNBC. I live in western CT and have gotton up with you every morning from the time you were at Channel 30. Since I get both stations, I followed you to WNBC. I actually even saw you on Martha Stewart from Fl. this last year. I hope you remain in the area and I will follow you again. Please post where you are going so your loyal friends will know. Bill

  164. Rob was a pleasure to watch. His dry wit, savoir faire and amiable demeanour will never be matched for the chair he vacates.
Replacing him as a cost-cutting measure will be paid for in lower ratings and less revenue for TINY and maybe a lost job for the genius who came up with this appalling idea.
To redeem yourselves, TINY management, get him back.

  165. Rob,

I have been looking to see what happened to you !!!
I feel NBC made a very big mistake … I have enjoyed watching you and the others each morning…….I new guy is terrible.
I wish you the best of luck and let us know where you will be.
It’s ok about being a Red Sox’s and New kids on the block fan we still love you.
Thank you, miss you Debbie in New Jersey

  166. Rob, you are missed!!!!

  167. Please come back!!! Michael Gargiulo is very bland and cheesy…not at all the natural that you are. Where are you off to now? I’d rather turn on to THAT channel.

  168. Where in the world is Rob Morrison?????

  169. According to WikiAnswers:

Q: Where did Rob Morrison of WNBC go?

A: Rob has been named the primary anchor of the new Tribune owned FOX 5 in beautiful San Diego, CA (DMA 27).

  170. I’m sorry Erika T and Mike G are just not cutting it. Bring back the old crew Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis NBC had a winning group in the morning and should have kept it that way. If Chris goes too I’m tuning out.
    A loyal NBC news viewer.

  171. I am a native New Yorker (not a Yankees Fan!) and watched you from Texas. Loved the way you supported the Red Sox and Chris C.supports the Mets! I found his website and would really like to know where I could watch you.
Thanks for taking the homesickness away!

  172. Rob:

Just wanted to let you know, I do not watch channel 4 news because you have left. It’s not the same without you. Hope to see you on on of the other local news channels in NYC.

    Patricia

  173. Rob,
I feel like I can call you by your first name because I feel like I knew you from watching you every morning. I missed the news when you left NBC so every morning since the beginning of the summer my wife and I would wonder aloud
“where’s Rob” ? So I finally decided to go on line and see, that’s how we found out. First let me wish you good luck and continued success In whatever you persue. And say that the early morning news is not the same without you sitting next to that “gorgeous” Darlene Rodriguez. Boy that must have been really tough to get up every morning to go to work and sit next to her everyday!!
Well again good luck and you will be missed,
    Ernie Ayala

  174. Rob,
    Where the heck are you?
    You are sorely missed.
    Best,
    Robert

  175. My husband and I still say every morning “where are you Rob, we miss you”. You were the best, and we truly miss your clever sense of humor. Good luck in all you do! “A box of rain” will have to ease our pain while you’re away.

  176. Rob, I was sad when I realized you were not just on vacation, but gone! I watched you everyday as I got
ready for work, and enjoyed that time tremendously.
I hope we’ll see you in another venue soon. Meanwhile,
I wish you and your family the best.

  177. Rob,
Hope you are still in touch with this blog, I go through this every now and again, hoping there is word on where you are.
Let’s see how long I have followed you, WVIT with Janet, gosh you two were great in Ct together, but must admit, I left you, and moved to Frederick Md, and there you were, when my Husband was in the Pentgon on 9-11, Rob, you made us feel safe when we watched you in Iraq. Then we move to Maine, and have to have a satellite up up here, and how disappointed I was with customer service because we have no local news, well I guess being way up here with the moose and bear, we really don’t need it. SO they gave us Ca news, and NY news, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw you in NY, Hence I was no longer mad at our satellite tv company..
Just a note to let you know that you are still missed, and your blog is still read, looking for some news on you.
Give Jack a Hug from Maine.. and give one back to yourself..
    Val
